Dragon Skies: mobs and monsters

When the great meteor cracked open the sky islands and war descended upon the shattered realms, many of its people were transformed into fierce and terrible monsters.

It is these creatures, warped by magic and madness, that you must now face if you wish to gather the Crystals of Power and become the hero of prophecy! So read well, for this guide will warn you who to trust, who to avoid, and how to prepare yourself for the fight to rid the world of evil!


 

Allies

Dragon

Found in: Dragon Mountain

Drops: N/A

Powers obtained from the Crystals of Power:

  • Fighter state: dragon uses their tail to knock back enemies

  • Improved run and jump: dragon runs and jumps faster

  • Dark state: dragon fires dark magic that leaves a lingering effect on your enemies

  • Healing state: dragon emits a healing aura

  • Fire state: dragon shoots fireballs at your enemies

  • Flying: dragon can fly

Legends tell of a hero atop a mighty dragon, who will gather the power of the sky islands and bring peace to the land. Well, that time is now! Hatched in the heart of Dragon Mountain, this dragon is your constant companion throughout the Sky Islands, growing stronger with every crystal you consume. You can ride them, gliding between the drifting landmasses, fight with them and even name and dye them so you’ll both look stylish!

You can also heal your dragon with a hearty meal of dragon food. It doesn’t taste that good though, so it’s probably better to find your own food elsewhere.

 

Furen

Found in: Furen Village, Furen Barrow

Drops: N/A

One of the two races not to be corrupted during the Great Dragon Wars, these friendly fox folk live a simple life of farming and trading on the far reaches of the Sky Islands, safe from the monsters that dwell on the other isles.

Mischievous and cheerful, furen are always happy to help so trade with them for goods or for special items that can help you and your dragon!

 

Fin-Ghi

Found in: Fin-Ghi Lake, Fin-Ghi Falls

Drops: N/A

The second of the two races not to be corrupted during the Great Dragon Wars, these fish-folk live a peaceful life in the waters of their people, keeping well away from the dangers that lurk on the other isles.

They’re always happy to help so trade with them for goods or for special items that can help you and your dragon!

 

Yak

Found in: Furen Village, Furen Barrow, Sunken Ruins, Wizard’s Tower

Drops: Beef, leather

After the war, the animals of the world were warped and twisted into monstrous beasts, but with the gentle coxing of the furen and fin-ghi, these mighty yaks once again returned to their docile domestic state, providing milk, meat and leather to the peaceful folk.

 

Ram

Found in: Furen Village, Furen Barrow

Drops: Wool, mutton

Once found only on the highest mountain peaks, these fearsome rams now keep the realm warm with their woolly coats and tasty meat.

 

Hen

Found in: Furen Village, Furen Barrow, Haunted Forest, Enchanted Forest, Fin-Ghi Lake

Drops: Raw chicken, feather

Like the chickens in the time before the war, these hens produce eggs to eat, downing for pillows and, eventually, some meat to eat for the fair folk that look after them.

 

Enemies

Scorpion

Found in: Infested Mines, Giant’s Forge, Palace of Death

Drops: Flint

Giant versions of their former selves, these arachnids don’t need to sting you any more to deliver a deadly poison but can shoot their venom at a distance, weakening you as the charge in for the final strike.

They are best dealt with quickly and without mercy.

 
Slime.png

Slime

Found in: Infested Mines, Wizard’s Tower

Drops: Slimeballs

Growing in the dark, wet spaces of the world, these slimes are the devourers of wayward adventurers, engulfing and dissolving those who wander too much from the path.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, each strike splits these slippery slimes, meaning you’ll be facing even more foes than you were before! Beware you don’t drown in their smothering embrace.

 

Lava Slime

Found in: Mount Ignis

Drops: Magma cream

Formed by the intense heat of Mount Ignus, these cubes of sentient lava are compelled to consume like their non-flammable counterpart, but instead of burning with acid, they burn with molten hot rock.

 

Gloop

Found in: Haunted Forest, Crystal Caverns, Enchanted Forest, Redstone Mines, Wizard’s Tower

Drops: N/A

A hideous crawling mass of… something, the gloop are the twisted remains of some terrible spell, a piteous pile of matter, seeking to consume anything it touches, perhaps in the hopes of regaining their previous form. Who can tell?

What we do know is while they might not be strong, they are tenacious, so put these poor things to rest quickly.

 

Horn Bug

Found in: Haunted Forest, Tree of Settis

Drops: Gravel, scute

A relentless foe, this beetle charges at any and all opponents goring them with their horn until one of them is dead.

Make sure the dead one isn’t you.

 

Fire Horn Bug

Found in: Enchanted Forest, Meteor Scar, Mount Ignus, Palace of Death

Drops: Netherwart

Much like its non-flammable counterpart, this big bug charges its opponents with its mighty horn.

However, unlike its brethren, it knows when to call it quits, curling into a protective ball and rolling away if it feels like the fight might not be going in its favour. After that you can either chase them down or let them go, depending how merciful you’re feeling.

 

Leap Spider

Found in: Infested Mines

Drops: Spider eye, string

Lurking inside their massive webbed caverns, the spiders of the realm grew large in the darkness of the war, becoming massive arachnids, capable of climbing any surface in pursuit of their prey.

Striking down a mother will instantly hatch her eggs, causing a swarm of spiderlings to immerge and devour that which slew their protector.

 

Wood Forg

Found in: Sunken Ruins, Tree of Settis

Drops: Rabbit

The forg were created by the Wizards, though if this was intentional or the byproduct of another spell, no one knows. Once humble tree frogs eating bugs and small birds, these wood forg now hunt bigger prey, namely, you.

Using their giant girth and bludgeoning tongue they attempt to stun then consume anything they think looks good, so try not to act tasty.

 

Water Forg

Found in: Coral Caves

Drops: Rabbit, scute

The forg were created by the Wizards, though if this was intentional or the byproduct of another spell, no one knows. Mutated as they are, these forg still remember their love for the water and remained close to the waters of their homeland, though they’re a more serious threat than they once appeared.

Using their giant girth and bludgeoning tongue they attempt to stun then consume anything they think looks tasty, so try not to look too yummy.

 

Fire Forg

Found in: Mount Ignis

Drops: Rabbit, flame enchanted gold sword

The forg were created by the Wizards, though if this was intentional or the byproduct of another spell, no one knows. The most twisted of the three forg races, thefire forg completely abandoned their amphibious nature and sought out the hottest realm they could find, taking rooting in the lava of Mount Ignis.

Using their giant girth and bludgeoning tongue they attempt to stun then consume anything they think looks tasty, so try not to get barbequed in the lava fields.

 

Gawling

Found in: Crystal Caverns

Drops: Rabbit foot

A creature warped by dark magic, Gawling are a pitiful race. Despite its ghastly appearance, they are fearful of all others, hiding away in the dark and running from any foe that may seek to harm them. They’re best left alone.

 

Shard Bug

Found in: Crystal Caverns

Drops: Diamond, emerald

Born amongst the shimmering geodes of the Crystal Caverns, these shard bugs use the gems in the cavern as protection against any predators looking for a tasty snack or to steal their shinies. It also helps that their mandibles can crush rock, so will make short work of you and your dragon if you go in ill-prepared.

 

Fungus

Found in: Isle of Mushrooms

Drops: Red mushroom, brown mushroom

Another victim of the wizard’s meddling, these fungal creatures were once the workers, caretakers and sometimes even the trainees of the Wizard’s Tower, now cursed to roam the land as a walking blight.

Their grasping strike, while powerful in its’ own right, delivers a debilitating poison that weakens the body, making their victims more susceptible to the spores seeking to sneak inside and begin the process to have you join them. To become one with the mushrooms…forever.

 

Floater

Found in: Sunken Ruins, Coral Caves

Drops: Trident

Giant humanoid jellyfish, these gelatinous monstrosities have learnt the ways of the trident and now use it to attack at a distance, keeping enemies away from their vulnerable forms.

Charge at them and take them out.

 

Serpent Archer

Found in: Enchanted Forest, Coral Caves

Drops: Bow, arrow

Children of the great snake Settis, the serpent race scorned her love and were cast out from the great tree, warped by her rage and poison.

Under Settis’ curse, these serpents grew arms and took to the bow to hunt and survive. Now they hunt anything that moves, so beware of their deadly aim.

 

Skeleton Warrior

Found in: Sunken Ruins, Haunted Forest

Drops: Bone, bow, arrow

Reanimated by the Necromancer’s dark power, these archers once defended the realms of men, now they hunt those they once protected.

Deadly at long range, their fragile bones make them susceptible to melee strikes, so shatter them if you don’t want to join them in the afterlife.

 

Cactus Burster

Found in: Giant’s Forge

Drops: Gunpowder

A horrifying creature warped by the Necromancers’ dark magic, this monstrosity lies in wait pretending to be a humble cactus.

When someone gets too close, the cactus burster reveals its horrifying true form, sprouting legs and runs at the unfortunate victim, exploding in a shower of deadly spikes and toxic goo! If you see one, just run.

 

Serpent Brute

Found in: Giant’s Forge

Drops: N/A

Children of the great snake Settis, the serpent race scorned her love and were cast out from the great tree, warped by her rage and poison.

Twisted into a new, horrific form, these brutes became as mindless as the beasts of the forest, driven only by instinct and hunger. Once it catches sight of its prey, it slams into them, striking them with devastating blows until it moves no more. Keep away if you value your life.

 

Fire Grinder

Found in: Meteor Scar

Drops: Blazerods

A demonic creature born of the meteor’s impact, these brute thrive in the volcanic heart of the meteor’s remains, striking with burning claws to scorch and devastate their victims.

They also have a tough outer shell, so they can take a lot of damage before you can take them down. Don’t face these guys unless you’re prepared for a fight.

 

Bosses

Ex-wizard Cornellius III

Found in: Isle of Mushrooms

Drops: Nether star, 12 red mushroom blocks, 12 brown mushroom blocks, 5 nether warts, 20 slime blocks, 5 lodestones, 64 dragon food, 24 diamonds

One of the most insane wizards of his age, Cornellius III pushed the boundaries of magic to its extreme, until it transformed him into a living mushroom.

Now he rules the Isles of Mushrooms, striking at foes with a deadly spinning attack, striking them with his multiple tentacles.

 

Frost Troll

Found in: Frozen Waterfall

Drops: Nether star, 13 ice blocks, 47 blue ice, 37 leather, 7 bone blocks, 64 dragon food, 24 diamonds

A member of the frost troll tribe, this warrior was forged for conflict, battling against their ancestral enemies, the fire trolls, until the unifying power of Umyr and the great hammer of the Giant’s Forge.

Alone thanks to the dark magics of the Necromancer and desperate to keep intruders out of their beloved waterfalls, the troll will strike out with his enormous fists and slam the floor to force his opponent back. Once they’re far enough away, he’ll launch giant balls of snow and stone to crush them into nothing.

 

Necromancer

Found in: Palace of Death

Drops: 3 nether stars, 12 TnT blocks, 12 bone blocks, 1 netherite sword, 1 cake, 128 dragon food

Once a great hero of legend, corrupted by the Darkness, the dread Necromancer and his Bone Dragon are the sources of all evil in the realm, laying waste to the sky islands and ruling with terrifying malice. It’s up to you, as the hero of the sky islands to take him down.

The Necromancer will summon minions of evil to distract and cast glyphs of dark magic to wound and weaken, always teleporting away if you should get close enough to strike him, but be persistent. His body, though fueled by dark magic, is still vulnerable and can be damaged.

If he feels the death he’s fought so hard to avoid come upon him, the Necromancer will summon his Bone Dragon to defend him, taking to the skies to strike out with wing attacks to knock you out of the sky. The Bone Dragon can also breathe out noxious green flames, to devastate opponents but keep strong!

The Necromancer must fall. The sky islands are counting on you.

 

Traps

Red Mushrooms

Found in: Craftable item

Required items: Red mushroom, slimeballs x3

Power: Slowness

Cultivated aeons ago by a wise and noble druid of the forest, plant these mushrooms in the earth and watch as they slow anyone foolish enough to step on them to a crawl. Produce more of them by feeding them bonemeal but beware, destroying them will cause them to explode, sending out a larger cloud of dangerous spores across the area.

Being a force of nature, tools of man, such as a trap disarmer will not work to reduce its effect.

Green Mushrooms

Found in: Haunted Forest, Palace of Death, Craftable Item

Required items: Red mushroom, spider eye x3

Power: Poison

Green as the snake hiding in the grass, plant these mushrooms in the earth and poison anyone who gets too close. Produce more of them by feeding them bonemeal but beware, destroying them will cause them to explode, sending out a larger cloud of dangerous spores across the area.

Blue Mushrooms

Found in: Crystal Caverns, Craftable Item

Required items: Brown mushroom, feather x3, redstone x1

Power: Levitation

Plant these mushrooms in the earth, blue as the endless sky and watch those who tread upon them join the clouds above. Produce more of them by feeding them bonemeal but beware, destroying them will cause them to explode, sending out a larger cloud of dangerous spores across the area.

Purple Mushrooms

Found in: Crystal Caverns, Craftable Item

Required items: Red mushroom, gunpowder x5

Power: Blindness

Dark as night and just as deadly, plant these mushrooms in the earth and watch their spores blind any fool enough to pass them. Produce more of them by feeding them bonemeal but beware, destroying them will cause them to explode, sending out a larger cloud of dangerous spores across the area.

Being a force of nature, tools of man, such as a trap disarmer will not work to reduce its effect.

 

Yellow Mushrooms

Found in: Enchanted Forest, Palace of Death, Craftable Item

Required items: Red mushroom, magma cream

Power: Nausea

Sicken your foes to the core by planting these mushrooms in the earth and letting them walk over them. Then you’re free to strike! Produce more of them by feeding them bonemeal but beware, destroying them will cause them to explode, sending out a larger cloud of dangerous spores across the area.

Hot-Vent.png

Hot Vents

Found in: Coral Caverns, Craftable Item

Required items: Magma block, fire charge, obsidian x5

Fueled by scorching hot rocks, these vents of searing air force intruders up into the sky, slamming them into the ceiling or causing a long, terrible drop onto the floor below. Useful in tandem with other traps, though could be used to get to higher places by the brave or foolish.

Swinging Blade

Found in: Crystal Dungeons, Craftable Item

Required items: Iron ingot x6, lever

A dangerous and deadly trap, it can slice a careless adventurer in half in an instant. So stay on your toes and keep an eye on the ceiling.

Using a trap disarmer will deactivate this ancient trap and allow you to utilise it for your own ends.

 

Spike Pit

Found in: Crystal Dungeons, Craftable Item

Required items: Iron ingot, stick x4, wooden planks x2

One of the oldest traps in the book, this simple yet elegant trap punishes the reckless, the unobservant and the greedy alike. Watch your step.

Spike Wall

Found in: Crystal Dungeons, Craftable Item

Required items: Iron ingot x6, piston

A seeming innocuous metal plate becomes deadly in an instant, shooting out spikes to pierce intruders or force them into the path of another deadly trap! The possibilities are endless!

Using a trap disarmer will deactivate this ancient trap and allow you to utilise it for your own ends.

 

Arrow Trap

Found in: Crystal Dungeons, Craftable Item

Required items: Brick x6, arrow, bow

Archers are good, automatic archers are better. They don’t need food, water or rest, they just stand guard and shoot anything it sees on sight… even the person who made it. So be careful.

Using a trap disarmer will deactivate this ancient trap and allow you to utilise it for your own ends.

 

Fire Trap

Found in: Crystal Dungeons, Craftable Item

Required items: Brick x5, fire charge, dispenser

Like an Arrow Trap but on fire! Designed to look like the ancient dragons of yore, these traps launch fireballs that can incinerate intruders on sight.

Using a trap disarmer will deactivate this ancient trap and allow you to utilise it for your own ends.

 

Zap Trap

Found in: Crystal Dungeons, Craftable Item

Required items: Iron bar x5, iron ingot x2, gold ingot, redstone dust

Inspired by the madcap mechanisms of the Redstone Mines, these traps harness energy into shocking zaps of electricity!

Using a trap disarmer will deactivate this ancient trap and allow you to utilise it for your own ends.

 

Wizard’s Box

Found in: Crystal Dungeons, Enchanted Forest, Mount Ignus, Craftable Item

Required items: Gold ingot x4, redstone dust x4, chest

As unpredictable as the people who inspired their creation, these boxes can bring wealth or can bring death. Do you feel lucky?
