Batman
Real Name: Bruce Wayne
Found in: Gotham City
The Caped Crusader. The Dark Knight. The World’s Greatest Detective. Whatever he’s called, Batman is Gotham City’s steadfast defender against crime and injustice, taking on Super-Villains and common thugs alike to protect the people of Gotham City.
Bruce Wayne was a regular, wealthy heir to the Wayne fortune when one night, after a trip to the theatre, his parents were slain in a robbery gone wrong. Bruce was left all alone in the world, save for his steadfast butler Alfred. Driven by a thirst for justice and a hatred for crime, Bruce travelled the world, training his body and his mind to become that which all criminals would fear: Batman.
Things haven’t always been easy for Batman, but over time, he’s gathered the respect of Gotham City Policy Department and of Gotham City itself. With a family of like-minded crime fighters at his side, he’s ready to save the day, whatever’s thrown his way.
Robin
Real Name: Damian Wayne
Found in: The Batcave
The protegee and sidekick to the Caped Crusader; many have worn the mantle of Robin, from Dick Grayson and Jason Todd to Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake, all with varying degrees of success.
The current Robin is Bruce Wayne’s son, Damien Wayne. Raised by the villainous League of Assassins, Damien was a serious yet undisciplined child, forged as a weapon against crime but in a way that challenged his father’s non-lethal methods.
After foiling a plot that would have seen Damien possessed by the spirit of his grandfather, the immortal Ra's al Ghul, Damien warmed towards his father and began to adopt his non-lethal philosophy. Since then, Damien has become a steadfast ally to the other members of the Bat-Family, who he initially saw as usurpers to his place by his father's side.
Batgirl
Real Name: Barbara Gordon
Found in: The Batcave
The only daughter of Commissioner Gordon, Barbara grew up surrounded by the realities of life in Gotham City and the struggle for justice. Upon seeing Batman taking on the city's Super-Villains, she decided to take up the mantle of Batgirl, fighting alongside him and Robin to tackle the growing wave of crime.
Following a devastating attack by The Joker, Barbara was paralysed, only able to travel using a wheelchair. She still sought to help the Bat-Family, becoming The Oracle, the Bat-Family’s information and hacking specialist. However, after undergoing experimental therapy, Barbara regained the use of her legs, taking back the mantle of Batgirl.
Stronger and smarter than ever, Batgirl is an essential part of the Bat-Family and the bane of the criminal underworld.
Batwing
Real Name: Luke Fox
Found in: The Batcave
Luke Fox, son of Lucius Fox, picked up the mantle of Batwing when the previous Batwing retired. An army veteran, Luke resisted his father’s attempts to hire him as part of Wayne Enterprises, despite his proficiency in Chemistry and Physics, preferring to be his own man and go through life on his own terms rather than rely on his father’s power and influence.
This all changed when an international criminal organisation led by Talia Al Ghul attacked Wayne Tower, kidnapping Bruce Wayne and nearly killing Luke’s father, Lucius Fox, in the process. Seeking the means to stop Talia and her minions, he stole a prototype bat suit from his father’s workshop and teamed up with Nightwing and Batwoman to take down the organisation.
He now works as one of the latest members of the Bat-Family.
Batwoman
Real Name: Katherine ‘Kate’ Kane
Found in: The Batcave
One of the most recent additions to the Bat-Family, Kate started life as a member of the US Army, rising the ranks as her father did before her. This was until she was forced to leave the academy after being outed as LGTBQ+ and refusing to lie about it to save her position at the school. Directionless and seemingly with no purpose in her life, Kate found her way to Gotham City, where she was rescued from a mugger by Batman.
Inspired by Batman’s brand of vigilante justice, which she saw as akin to military service, she used her military expertise and her father’s equipment to take on the criminals of Gotham City. Eventually, she was brought into the Bat-Family and, as a similarly wealthy heir to the Kane estate, helps Bruce keep up his playboy facade while tackling the villains of Gotham
Nightwing
Real Name: Dick Grayson
Found in: The Batcave
After getting fired from the mantle of Robin for his own protection following an altercation with The Joker that nearly cost him his life, Dick Grayson was at a loss for what to do. He loved the vigilante life and sought to protect the people of Gotham City however he could. He became part of the Teen Titans, eventually becoming its leader under the Robin mantle, until Batman, still fearful for his protegee’s life, asked him to retire the mantle.
Though he gave up being Robin, Grayson realised that he no longer needed Batman and struck out on his own as Nightwing. Just as strong, smart and resourceful as Batman himself, Nightwing keeps an eye on the rest of the Bat-Family from afar but now prefers to work alone or with help from his Teen Titan’s alumni.
Alfred
Real Name: Alfred Pennyworth
Found in: Kidnapped - Location Unknown
Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler and surrogate father figure following the passing of his parents, Alfred, in appearance, seems to be just a typical classically trained British butler, dry-witted and dependable, a rock for the wayward playboy. However, much like his master, there’s a lot more to Alfred than meets the eye.
A former SAS operative with the British Army, specialising in intelligence, and a classically trained actor, Alfred is essential in running Batman's operation. He maintains Bruce Wayne’s cover, operates and fixes much of the Batcave’s equipment, offers first aid to injured heroes, and is a spiritual rock for the Bat Family, serving as a moral compass during difficult situations.
He’s also been known to handle himself in a scrap, though it appears The Joker got the upper hand this time.
Commissioner Gordon
Real Name: James "Jim" Gordon
Found in: Gotham PD
A straight cop in a crooked town, Jim Gordon became Police Commissioner of a department rife with corruption and bribery, focused on profiting rather than protecting the people of Gotham.
Then came Batman.
While Jim, a man of integrity with a deep commitment to the law and unease around vigilante justice, was initially distrusting of the Caped Crusader and his methods, he eventually recognised the need for Batman to shake up the criminal underworld. Their shared belief in ridding Gotham of crime and corruption led to their eventual friendship and mutual respect.
Gordon now serves as a steadfast ally to the Bat-Family, providing them with information and backup as well as calling them to action by shining the Bat-Signal across the cloudy Gotham sky.
The Super-villains you defeat are incarcerated at Gotham City Police Department, where Gordon stands guard. While he won’t be happy about it, he’ll let you release the villains you’ve captured so you can fight them again. He doesn’t pretend to understand Batman's mysterious methods.
Lucius Fox
Real Name: Lucius Fox
Found in: The Batcave
The CEO of Wayne Enterprises and Bruce Wayne’s business manager, Lucius Fox was brought in to aid the failing company following Thomas Wayne’s passing, transforming it into a global megacorporation at the cutting edge of technology in multiple industries. His running of the company's day-to-day business frees Bruce to commit himself entirely to crime fighting.
While initially ignorant of Bruce’s vigilante activities, Lucius now serves as the Bat-Family’s technical supplier, providing them with the most up-to-date information, equipment and technology from Wayne Enterprises' developmental branches.
Lucius helps bring you up to speed with The Joker and the other villains' dastardly schemes and will explain any and all aspects of the Batcave if you need a refresher.
