On May 10th, Microsoft made the official announcement that they will be bringing Minecraft: Bedrock Edition to the Nintendo Switch as soon as June 21st 2018. After a little over a year with Minecraft on the platform, Switch players will be be able to access the huge upgrade for free if they already own the game. The Bedrock version of Minecraft comes with achievements and Gamerscore, as well as of course the hugely popular Minecraft Marketplace where players can purchase community created content and access community run servers.

But by far the biggest change for Minecrafters will be access to cross-play. The Better Together update, released on most platforms in September of last year, already allows players on Xbox, Windows 10, mobile and VR play together, and now Switch players will be able to get involved!

This also means that as of June 21st, if they choose to update, players will have full access to the Minecraft store and servers which offer community made content such as skins, texture packs and multiplayer maps to be purchased using Minecoins, an in-game currency.
