The Monster Food Guide

The first time you spawn into a world with Monster Food loaded, you’ll have a tablet that tells you all about the Add-On and can summon the Mad Monster Alchemist to start you on your journey.

It’s your very own player guide inside Minecraft!

Don’t worry if you lose it, you can always craft another!

The Monster Food Guide recipe - 1x Book, 1x Spice of any type

The Mad Monster Alchemist

The creator and master of Monster Alchemy, Maiga the Mad Monster Alchemist, is your guide to Monster Food, sharing all his wisdom with you.

You can summon him using the Monster Food Guide, and he’ll give you helpful information on how to start creating Monster Food, as well as give you a short tutorial on how to create the Crockpot and other useful items.

When you’re ready to move on and start your adventure, just talk to him, and he’ll pack up into a handy item in your inventory. This allows you to spawn him again if you need his help!

Gathering Materials

To make a dish, you first need some ingredients, and some are essential to Monster cooking.

Spice

Spice is the magic powder that makes Monster Alchemy work. It comes in 3 flavours; Ominous Spice, Ender Spice and Nether Spice, and are needed to create the Crockpot as well as any Monster Food recipe. Spice is dropped when you slay certain creatures.

Ominous Spice

Dropped by: Zombie, Zombie Villager, Evoker, Pillager, Ravager, Vindicator, Witch

Ender Spice

Dropped by: Witch, Evoker, Enderman, Endermite, Shulker. Stray, Husk

Nether Spice

Dropped by: Creeper, Blaze, Ghast, Magma Cube, Piglin, Piglin Brute, Zoglin

Monster Parts

Some monsters drop new unique items, which can be transformed into tasty snacks!

Boss mobs, like the Ender Dragon and the Warden, will always drop their items, whereas normal monster mobs will drop theirs randomly, so keep at it!

From Illager Shanks and Piglin Noses to Vex Wings and Warden Horns, there’s a pantry of produce just waiting to be found, so get out there and start slaying!

The Crockpot

Now that you have your ingredients, you have to cook them. But don’t think you can just throw them on a campfire or in a crafting table; you need something special to cook up dishes like Dragon Hotpot.

You need the Crockpot.

To create a Crockpot, you need 3 things: A Campfire, A Cauldron, and ANY of the monster spices that we just discussed.

Combine them on a crafting table, and voila! You have a crockpot that you can place anywhere.

To pick it back up, just break it like you would a Minecart or a Boat. I’m surprised it doesn’t dent the pot but if it works, it works.

Recipe Books

Woah, now! You can’t just throw stuff into a Crockpot all willy-nilly and hope things will come out alright. Food is an art, but it's also a science. And science has recipes.

Maiga has 3 recipe books, fit to bursting with delicious, and sometimes dangerous, dishes for you to try!

The Beginner Guide to Cooking with Monsters

Crafting recipe - 1x Book, 1x Coal, 1x Ominious Spice

This book contains all the starting recipes you’ll need to dip your toes into the world of Monster Food. They aren’t terribly powerful, but they’re a good starting point for the sort of meals and powers you can create.

The Advanced Guide to Cooking with Monsters

Crafting recipe - 1x Book, 1x Coal, 1x Ender Spice

A step up from the earlier book, these recipes are a little bit rarer and a touch more complicated but create incredible results, with food that can alter the world and the minds of the mobs around you, for good or ill. Treat with caution

The Forbidden Guide to Cooking with Monsters

Crafting recipe - 1x Book, 1x Coal, 1x Nether Spice

This book contains the most powerful and dangerous recipes the Mad Monster Alchemist could devise! I dare not say more; it’s forbidden for a reason!

How to cook

You’ve got your ingredients. You’ve got the Crockpot. You’ve got your recipes.

Now it's time to cook!

Thankfully, with all that preparation, cooking itself is really simple.

Just gather the correct ingredients, open up the crockpot, put the items inside and light the fire with a Flint and Steel. The Crockpot will do the rest!

If you’ve put in the recipe correctly, you’ll see the item you’re cooking hovering over the bubbling pot. A few moments later, the lid will pop open, and the dish will be ready to collect!

If you’ve got it wrong… well, we’ll cover that in a bit.

Food Effects

The benefits of eating Monster Food are astronomical. Not only are they nutritious, but they can also have amazing effects that boost your strength or even grant you brand-new powers.

Maiga wrote the book on these effects…literally. You can craft it and read it all in-game if you’d like.

A Guide to Monster Powers and Curses

However, if you just want the patch notes, here are all the buffs and curses Monster Food can bestow upon you.

Buffs

Absorb the power within all Monsters and use it to soar to even greater heights in your adventure.

  • Frosty - Water and lava will freeze below your feet!

  • Hasty - Attack and break blocks faster.

  • Fast - Your movement is faster.

  • Healthy - Recover your health!

  • Charmed - Villagers will give you better prices for trades.

Curses

You can’t have the good without the bad and when things go bad, they really go all out.

Some Monster Foods can inflict strange and dangerous curses upon their eater, so keep an eye out for them and what they do. Otherwise the bad might seriously outweigh the good.

  • Gassy - Enemies you defeat will explode in a ball of wind.

  • Webs - Enemies you defeat will create binding webs.

  • Snotty - Enemies you defeat will create slimes.

  • Hungry - Your hunger will fall faster and you will need to eat more.

  • Hatred - Illagers have marked you and will raid the next village you enter.

  • Lazy - Your mining and attack speed will be drastically reduced.

  • Sunburn - You will randomly be set on fire.

  • Dry - Standing in water will wither you.

  • Static - Lightning will strike you at random, so keep moving.

  • Beasty - You lash out and attack any neutral creature near you.

Recipes gone wrong

Cooking Monster Food is an exact science. If just one thing is out of sync, the results can be disastrous!

Even if you do everything right, things can still go terribly wrong, though it is way less likely.

Things that can go wrong include:

  • Spice Ants appear around the Crockpot and chase after Spice.

  • Ghostly spirits erupt out of the Crockpot and explode or attack anyone nearby.

  • Food reanimates and attacks the chef.

  • The Crockpot becoming possessed and attacking anyone close enough! Slay it to free it and return it to normal.

Thankfully, if anything like this should happen, you won’t lose your ingredients, so you can just try again.

Plating your food

Food isn’t just for eating; you can decorate with it, too!

To frame your fabulous feast, just combine it with a Plating Pouch and boom, you will have a tasty piece of art ready to adorn your kitchen counter or dining room table without fear of rotting or despawning.

Plating Pouch Recipe - 1x Leather, 1x Any Spice

Feeling peckish? You can turn it back to edible food at any time by placing the decorative block on a crafting table.
