Home for the holidays

Hi Noxcrew community!

Did you miss us? After 11 days of shenanigans, board games and utter nonsense, the Noxcrew team are all on their way home from the annual Noxmeet and what a time we had!

I’m going to do a proper retrospective sometime down the line (I need a bit of time to process everything that happened) but needless to say we all had an amazing time together. We played a lot of games, did a lot of jamming on Rock Band and spent way too much time in the hot tub, talking into the night. It's always lovely to get the gang in one place and just hang out as friends, no stress, no worries and not too much work.

I say ‘too much work’ because we were actually productive while we were away (Gasp!) We had a series of meetings, discussing the year we’ve had and the lessons we’ve learnt in 2019

And what a year we’ve had. While not our most impressive in terms of the amount of projects we released, 2019 has certainly our biggest year in terms of the scope and scale of projects we’ve produced. We released what might be our 2 biggest maps ever in City Living and Monsters from the Ice, both huge undertakings that were meticulously crafted to ensure they reached our exacting standards, both for the map and ourselves.

We made our return, not only to Java but to mini-game competitions with the MC Championship. A huge event with 40 youtubers involved, it was (to our eternal surprise) a tremendous success. We’d hope people would enjoy it but the reaction was astounding! We’re delighted by the response and look forward to hosting the next event sometime in the new year.

Finally Frozen, our very first IP map. Frozen was a massive learning curve both for individual members and for the Noxcrew in general. It wasn’t always an easy process, but thanks to Frozen, we’ve grown as a creative unit. It taught us a lot of lessons that were gonna take on moving forward and we’re so thankful for the opportunities it has provided us.

We’re thankful in general for the 2019 we've had, and all your amazing support, even when we went quiet for a bit. Noxcrew is now 8 years old and it feels like we’ve come such a long way from those humble beginnings. But without you guys, we’d still be a bunch of kids messing around in our bedrooms, so thank you.

But enough waxing lyrical about the past, what is 2020 going to bring? Well, as always Noxcrew looks forward to our next adventure, our next challenge. It’s going to be a bit of a different year for Noxcrew, maybe not quite as big in terms of the scale we’ll be working in (working on 1 map for 6 months is exhausting!) but still with the same drive and passion to create stupid crazy stuff in our own unique style.

Regardless of what lies ahead, I can’t wait until we can get to work on all the exciting projects we have planned (We came up with some off the wall stuff guys, it's going to be amazing) and I can share all of the behind the scenes nonsense that goes with it.

But that's all for next year.

For now, Noxcrew are settling down to enjoy the festive period and recharge after such a mammoth year. We’ll be back full time in January, cracking on and doing what we love, but until then we here at Noxcrew wish you all a very happy holidays and an exciting 2020. We hope you spend the time enjoying yourselves with the people you love, getting loads of lovely presents and making happy memories.

Until next time!

Noctis
