NZC: project announcement

Hi Noxcrew Community!

Two weeks into mandatory lockdown, how are we all coping out there, not going too stir crazy I hope?

We here at Noxcrew have been keeping our spirits up by finally deciding what map we’re going to work on next! It was all in all a rather civilised affair, we had a big group meeting as well as lots of smaller discussions, weighing up the pros and cons of both projects and considering what the best approach would be. We even had a vote like a proper little democracy.

In the end, we decided to go ahead with Nice Zoomy Cats, with Dastardly Drake being taken back to the shop for tuning and refinement, ready to be repitched sometime down the line. It was a great idea and something we’re excited to work on eventually, it just didn’t feel ‘Noxcrewy’ enough in its current state.

With the decision finally made, we're off to the races with a preliminary meeting taking place later today ready for a big pow wow on Monday where we’ll kick things off properly, going over the project in full, looking at what needs to be done and doling out tasks. With all this going on, deffo expect some Nice Zoomy Cats news next week!

As luck would have it, (and as you should expect from us by now) we can’t just do one thing at a time. Despite weeks of discussion about which map to do next, the second we settle on Nice Zoomy Cats, we end up starting a second project as well!

Codenamed ‘Wandering Paladins’ this project is set to be drastically smaller than the other 2 pitches, needing minimal entity or art work, just a nice little project for the build and mechanics teams to work on without working under mountains of fantastically animated entities (you should see what’s coming on the 14th of April, it’s gonna blow your mind)! At the scale we’re considering, it shouldn’t take too long to complete (touch wood) and I’ll hopefully have some details for you very soon.

Perhaps I was a little optimistic when I reported last week that we would have Codename: Cow out of the door by now. Issues with certain entities and how they interact with Minecraft and Realms as well as with some sounds have snared up proceedings a little, meaning that our testing drive got delayed until today! But we’re finally running through things and getting them tested so fingers crossed we can get this moving and we can focus on our 2 new maps without interruption soon!

Finally, I hope you all enjoyed our little April Fools joke on Wednesday. In case you didn’t see, we reported that we were replacing our tried and tested method of deciding games, aka throwing chickens at the problem, and replacing them with the participants throwing themselves into the ring wearing chicken suits.

Alas, a great many of you fell for our fiendish trick! Sorry to disappoint but we’re not replacing our beloved chickens any time soon! That would be like cereal without milk or Noxcrew without insanely elaborate concepts! It just doesn’t work!

To make up for our naughty little trick we’ll be running an MCC test tonight! Marius wants to test out a series of bug fixes he’s been working on, just to get them all cleared and out of the way ready for MCC 4 on the 18th! Hope we’ll see you all there!

And that’s your lot!

Keep safe and I’ll see you all next week!
