Muppets Mayhem on Disney+
Noxcrew worked in partnership with Muppets Studio for the launch of the Disney+ series, "Muppets Mayhem," released in May 2023. Disney challenged Noxcrew to bring the Muppets into the Minecraft world for an immersive virtual concert experience.
Project Overview:
One episode of "Muppets Mayhem" required the Muppets to enter the virtual realm to connect with the current Gen Z audience. Following their successful collaboration on Frozen 2, Disney contacted Noxcrew in September 2022 with this proposal.
The challenge presented to Noxcrew was to create an in-game, in-world Minecraft concert with the Muppets, featuring thousands of players in the audience, all achieved through cinematic techniques. The team had to film both the story context and the concert, resulting in approximately 10 minutes of raw footage.
Noxcrew collaborated closely with Muppets Studio from script to storyboarding, fine-tuning the creative vision along the way. The goal was to create a unified look for the game, design the effects, and seamlessly bring the Muppets into the Minecraft universe.
Technical adaptations were needed to create the illusion of a massive in-game audience, which was limited by the game’s frame rate.
One of the key advantages of hosting a virtual concert in a video game is the ability to manipulate the concert experience. The Muppets' story in the virtual world allowed for dynamic changes in audience interaction, stage atmosphere, and the overall immersive environment.
The project spanned three months, with one month dedicated to development work, all completed in-house by the Noxcrew team. Noxcrew handled all aspects of the project in-house, including storyboarding, art, animation, level design, and 3D capturing. The team provided a wealth of raw footage for Muppets Studio to manipulate and edit as needed.
